Check out our Dell XPS 13 laptop review and see what makes this great computer worth buying.
- 20 cm x 30.4 cm x 1.5 cm
- 1.2 kilos
- 13.3 inch screen
This is a sleek and cool laptop which keeps wasted space to a minimum. The 13.3 inch screen runs right to the edges of the case. The case itself is made of lightweight aluminium and both the screen and keyboard are very thin and extremely tough, so this is a great laptop to buy if you spend a lot of time on the go. Silver and black variants are available, and the QHD+ model has a screen upgrade featuring tough glass to protect the display.
- Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz processor
- 8 GB RAM
- 256 GB hard drive
- Intel Integrated Graphics (520 HD)
- 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution
The latest edition of the Dell XPS 13 series features an upgrade to i7 processing power – and the difference from previous models is definitely noticeable! If you use your laptop to play games and watch movies, you will appreciate the extra power: it complements the high-spec HD graphics card well, and provides the ability to run several processes at once without experiencing lag and freezing issues.
The laptop a front-facing HD webcam for making video calls and recording your own clips, as well as dual microphone technology for a consistent sound. One area that is lacking slightly is the speaker quality – it is certainly sufficient, but alongside those beautiful graphics you might find it lacks the right amount of kick. Make good use of the Bluetooth 4.1 connection, and throw music and game audio, music and other sounds to your home speaker system or sound bar instead.
- Mid-range: £850 – £1250
The latest edition of the XPS 13 Series is available on Amazon right now. The 7th generation edition featured in this review is available at the very reasonable £1,245. If this falls a little outside of of your budget, look for the earlier version which features an Intel 5 processor – currently offered at £989. That is some great value. The XPS 13 is comparable to the Macbook Pro in size and performance, but is costs significantly less.
This great laptop is a cheaper alternative to the MacBook, it is lighter than the Lenovo Yoga 900, and it has more internal power than the Asus Zenbook. It is an impressive all-rounder which manages to offer value as well as performance, and it is a reliable investment that is unlikely to become dated any time soon. Connectivity is great and field testing shows good Wi-fi reception in a number of locations. Compatible with Windows 10 but with the ability to strip down the operating system and add your own, this is also a good machine for developers and programmers.
